Class of 1962 Donates $1000 to Myers Park Communities in Schools!
We had a little money left over from the reunion, mostly from donations from individual classmates, to donate $1000 (plus an equal corporate match) to the Communities In Schools (CIS) initiative for Myers Park High School. CIS is a program of counseling that helps keep students in school and from dropping out. It has been successful in the Charlotte schools in which it functions. MPHS does not automatically qualify for CIS funding because of its demographics, so a student-driven initiative began raising awareness and funds. We helped that effort with our donation. There is now a half-time counselor at our alma mater!
